BUILDER (BIRMINGHAM UNIVERSITY INTEGRATED DEVELOPMENT AND ELECTRONIC RESOURCE) EVALUATION

CIRT conducted external evaluation of the BUILDER (Birmingham University Integrated Development and Electronic Resource) project. The BUILDER project aimed to develop a working model of the hybrid library within both a teaching and research context. It also aimed to develop methods of seamlessly integrating access to a wide range of printed and electronic resources, both local and remote, using a web-based interface.

BUILDER was supported as part of phase 3 of the Electronic Libraries programme (eLib), which is funded by the Joint Information Systems Committee (JISC) of the Higher Education Funding Councils.

CIRT conducted formative and summative evaluation of many aspects of the BUILDER project, ranging from impact on University personnel, to success of individual pilot services. Examples of the areas evaluated include:

  • pilot short loan services
  • dissemination strategies
  • pilot electronic journal services
  • impact on strategic university managers
  • impact on information services staff
  • pilot information landscapes.
