Review of REDS (Regional Emergency and Disaster Squad)

CIRT has been commissioned by EMMLAC (East Midlands Museums, Libraries and Archives Council) to conduct a review of its Regional Emergency and Disaster Squad (REDS).

REDS offers specialist support to member institutions in the event of an emergency or disaster. Members offer a rapid response to incidents which place important historic collections either under immediate threat (requiring evacuation), or in which they are already damaged and in need of specialist knowledge and handling (salvage).

The review aims to:

  • Investigate the current and past position of the REDS organisation
  • Identify other disaster response networks and training and awareness programmes
  • Make recommendations on its future development
  • Investigate the possibility of developing a best practice model.
  • Methodology will include a literature search, questionnaire and interviews.
