School Libraries - Self Evaluation Tools
The ability to demonstrate the impact which school libraries have on learning is becoming increasingly important. A school might decide to carry out an evaluation of its library provision for a number of reasons, including:
- to identify ways in which areas targeted as a result of previous evaluation or an inspection report might be improved;
- to examine new initiatives which have been introduced;
- to investigate an area where you are not sure how good the standard of provision is;
- to respond to more widespread concerns highlighted by local SLS, the LEA or national bodies such as the SLA, CILIP, OFSTED or the DfES.
The tools below are designed to assist secondary schools to evaluate their libraries and to carry out other aspects of school library management. They have been developed by or with the support of school library staff. They can be downloaded in Word format and you may adapt them as necessary to suit the particular needs of your school.
